Margarita - Caribe Beach

Caribe Beach is on the eastbound route from Juangriego, in the Margarita Island. After the La Galera beach, pass by the Fortín de La Galera (by the way, a must-visit historical place) and continue on the only paved road. Keep going between the arid, orange-colored hills, even though you may think you are lost. Soon you will arrive at a beach with some rustic buildings. This is Caribe Beach.

Today, Caribe Beach has captured the tourist who does not like either huge crowds of people or restrictions. Above all, this appeals to European tourists woman who want to go topless without having a steady flow of gawkers passing by.

At the entrace of this long beach, places have been installed for snacks and divertion. There is a boardwalk on the beach which joins the commercial establishments. There are sun screens and beach chairs, waiters who serve food and drinks, strolling vendors offering anything they think they might be able to sell: T-shirts, necklaces, bracelets and decorations made with seeds, multi-colored beach wraps, scultures made with seashells, and the very famous "Seven Powers" and "Raiser of the Dead" coctails.

Beyond that section, you find vegetal refuges formed by beach grape trees, where locals -almost all from Juangriego-, go to prepare sancochos (hearty boiled dinner) on holidays. And, at the far end of the beach are the famous caves of Caribe Beach.

According to the legend, couples from the vicinity used to get to know each other here to decide if they would get married. Young lovers still use to meet at this romantic spot, but without needing the excuse of marriage anymore.

Facing the coast, there is a tiny island, formed by rocks which are barely united by sand banks. They can be reached by swimming or walking from the other extreme of the beach. Here, the fantasies of children who dream of being Robinson Crusoe or Darwin, come true.

By night, the scene changes to partying in the same sites which served as restaurants and soda fountains during the day. Music is turned on and drinks with suggestive names such as "Kiss me tender" or "Body heat" are rapidly served. All the place are totally open, thus eliminating the bother of a doorman and door or the stamp for entering and leaving.

These place serve as the hub, but the party expands over the entire beach. People can take a swim in the sea at midnight or take a walk to hide among the sea grapes (if the water seems too cold) or go as far as the caves with good company.

All the places are very rustic, made almost totally of sticks and palm, in the style of an indian churuata, and you can stay in any of them, sitting at a table or at the bar, or dancing to the rhythm of the latest music, which does not stop until dawn.

Caribe Beach is definitely a perfect place for tourists who want to know a new aspect that, up until now, has not been exploited in Margarita Island: great meetings of people enjoying themselves by night, without having to give up tanning themselves by day.
