Barlovento
 

The region of Barlovento in the Miranda State has always been the ideal place for the amusement of many people in Venezuela, mainly the people of the Capital of this country. Just a 90-minute drive from the capital, it is the reason for which many inhabitant of Caracas go to this region to enjoy the first beaches that are gotten when they go toward Oriente.

For many years, Barlovento has represented an attractive tourist pole. Barlovento bears a tourist-facility infrastructure consisting of hotels, inns, clubs and more. This lodging options are located near to the beaches of Higuerote, Paparo, San José de Río Chico, Tacarigua de la Laguna, Machurucuto, Playa Pintada, Chirimena, Carenero and many others beaches.

The entrance recommended toward the region of Barlovento is for Caucagua, taking toward Tacarigua de Mamporal, where you have two roads: one toward Higuerote and their surroundings and another toward Tacarigua de la Laguna.

Barlovento offers various alternatives for beach-lovers: the wavy beaches of Chirimena favored by surfers, families with young children favor the area of calm (though cloudy) waters by Higuerote, options such as Playa Cocada by Los Canales offers calm and clear seas, the outer banks of the Tacarigua de la Laguna present visitors with some 28 Km of solitary shoreline where marine turtles also lay their eggs.

In this region you will be able to enjoy the following beaches:
 
Buche: beach with quiet waters, with an excellent bathing resort and facilities for sports and aquatic activities.

Los Totumos: is located near to Carenero. This beach have some restaurants and services of rent of awnings and boats for trips around the area. Their crystalline waters are advisable for diving and the snorkelling.

Puerto Francés: wide beach next to Cabo Codera. In this beach the tourist can take trips in boat to the famous beach of Caracolito.

Chirimena: very popular site for the abundant chipichipi and guacuco (types of seashells).

Río Chico: it has a wide oceanic beach with abundant shade under coconut graves.

Other interesting beaches are: Machurucuto, Playa Cocada, Paparo, Playa Pintada, Playa Copey, etc.

Tacarigua de la Laguna offers the tourist a beautiful natural site for resort. This picturesque Natural Monument is a coastal lagoon constituting an albufera separated from the sea by a restinga (narrow sandy stretch), with beautiful landscapes, rich mangrove swamps, the shallow waters beaches, sandy bottom and quiet waves. It covers an area of 18,400 hectares. Tacarigua de la Laguna was declared national park in 1974. Here the tourist has appropriate services of transport, lodging, restaurant and others.
